Olympjc National Park
We arrived in Olympic National Park yesterday afternoon to find a campsite. We are staying at Heart O' the Hills. Very nice old trees forest with hemlock, cedar, and douglas fir trees. We met some really nice people who are camping near us. One couple about middle age, from Portland, Oregon. They were walking their dog and they stopped in at our site to say hello. They also have an Itasca camper, a little smaller than ours. We really had to jack up the front of the camper to make it level. Most of the sites are on a grade. Anyway, we also met our neighbors across the road. They are a family of four, with two girls ages four and six. They are so cute and very social. We learned that their mom home schools them. Very cool. We cooked dinner over the fire last night. We had fire roasted corn on the cob. Man that was out of this world good! Today, we went to check out Hurricane Ridge. It's a mountain range up the street from our campground about 10 miles. Very cool place. We went on a hike today there. The hike was 3.7 miles. We walked through all different types of terrain. Along the top of the ridge, through fields of wild flowers, (so pretty), to sort of a dense forest area. We got quit close to two deer that were walking on the trail. A little steep at some places, and it narrowed with rocks in some parts. Definitely worth it. We ended up on the road, and started walking back to the visitor center were we had the jeep. We were pretty tired at that point, and tried hitchin' a ride from the cars passing by. We lucked out about 1.5 to 2 miles away. A couple picked us up. They were from Texas, and they were on their way to Hurricane Ridge. Also very nice people. So grateful for them to give us a ride! Went back to the campground to have dinner. Cooked some grilled cheese, and tomato soup over the fire. Then we headed over to hear the ranger program at 8:00pm. That was great. She talked about some animals that are endangered, and some that have gone extincted. Also what the park tries to do to keep this from happening. Came back to our site to enjoy a fire. Now we are ready for bed. We'll be heading back to check out more at Hurricane Ridge tomorrow. Sorry no pictures. Still working on the problem we are having loading them on to blogger.

Man, I'm hungry hearing about all your goodies on the fire! Camping is the BEST! Pictures are always cool but just hearing where you are and what you are experiencing is so great too. Good luck with that though. For some reason the last day or so I can't seem to forward any pix from my email program. Hmmmm...cybermysteries...:) Are the glaciers still around? Nothing like in Montana for sure. Just wondering if it's too warm these days for the ones near you. Sending love and yummy tummy to you both. (I gotta get to Shorty's SOON!!!!) xoxo
