The first night in the redwoods was Del Norte State Park. We had a great time. There was a little excitement there after we arrived. Appartently the people three campsites down had a campfire either the night before or that morning and didn't put it out completely. They left for good that morning. An ember or something that was still lit blew out and into the neighboring brush which caught fire. The guy in the next campfire saw it first and started dumping some water on it. Then some firetrucks showed up to put the fire out. They were successful and that was the end of it. We hung out a while at the campground then drove out to the city of Cresent City. That was cool. We stopped by the beach and saw a brown pelican. We pasted some Roosevelt Elk on the road. That was cool. There must have been about 30 or so in the herd with 2 bucks! Then we went to see about the Meteor Shower we heard about. Unfortunately though it was everyone met at the park watershed and they would drive up to a spot in the park people normally aren't allowed. There they would camp overnight to watch the meteor shower visible around 1:00 am. Then they would all leave to come back around 6:00 am. It was an all or nothing deal. We were unaware of the details and weren't prepared for that, so we didn't go. Instead we went to the ranger program in the campground which turned out to be pretty cool. We learned about the geological background of the park. We almost won a banana slug postcard he was giving away for the furthest traveled. Brooklyn just beat us! Gus won a different postcard for answering a question correctly. We went back then to the site to have a campfire and then called it a night.
